Simpson and his donkey with factsheets and worksheets. This is a PowerPoint presentation on one of the most well-known ANZAC, John Simpson Kirkpatrick and his donkey. It is a resource linked to ANZAC Day and bravery. The texts are contained in text boxes to make it easier to read and extract information. This single phonics pack focuses on initial consonant blend ‘sw’ CCVC words. A natural progression from CVC and CCV to CCVC Phase 4: Letters and Sounds Principles and Practice. Aimed at: Early Years and keystage 1, SEND and ESL/EFL students. It is an addition to my other resources on initial consonant blends. This pack contains: Flexible Lesson Plan with learning objectives, lesson starter, main activities and plenary - You can choose which parts are relevant to your class. PowerPoint slides are referred to in the plan. PowerPoint Presentation 1 (36 Slides)- includes explanation of initial blend, CCVC words; whole class/group activities to prepare children for their independent activities. Also includes alien and real word whole class activity. PowerPoint Phoneme Presentation (15 Slides) - Optional (Use as reference) - some children may still be struggling with segmenting/blending). I have listed a few CCVC words and the units of sound above the fingers so that children can see and hear the separate phonemes (with pictures). Children are encouraged to make simple sentences with the words to understand its meaning and distinguish between nouns, verbs or adjectives. **This product has been updated with teacher notes on suggested activities, worksheets and black and white pictures for more initial consonant blend activities. ** There are 3 sets of pictures for each initial consonant blend. One set has highlighted initial blends. Optional: Print out onto card paper/good quality paper, laminate and cut out the pictures and words. Content: Teacher Notes on suggested activities 3 Sets of initial consonant blend pictures with words (one set has highlighted initial blends) 64 black and white pictures relating to initial consonant blends 3 Worksheets - children trace over initial blends and then write in the correct blends to finish incomplete words. 2 Cut/paste worksheet activities - children trace over blends and then write in correct blends to finish incomplete words. Lastly, they cut out the pictures and glue to match the correct completed words. Other Suggested Activities: Pictures only - Mix up different pictures and ask students to find the picture that starts with, e.g. br. Words only - Mix up different words and ask students to sound out the word and/or draw a picture for it. Extension - write sentences. Pictures and words - Mix up different pictures and words for students to match up correctly. Make a word wall using the initial highlighted words as a visual reminder. With the black and white pictures, you can reduce on the copier or leave as is to glue into workbooks. Leave out some words for the children to find the correct word to match the picture in their workbooks. As an extension they can write a sentence using that word. This resource relates to matching a mixture of CVC words to pictures. Learning aims: To read and match CVC words to pictures by segmenting and blending. There are two parts to this resource: 1. Play as a game to practise blending and segmenting; 2. For the teacher to assess children's progress in reading CVC words. This product contains: - Teachers' Notes on suggested activities - 8 phonic CVC Phonic Boards 1 to 8 containing clipart pictures - 72 word cards - 24 alien words/pseudo-words - 8 Phonic CVC Screening Check Sheets The boards are colour-coded with the word cards. On each board there are 9 cvc pictures and 3 alien pictures. There are 9 real word cards and 3 alien/pseudo-words for each picture board. Learn to read consonant, vowel, consonant(cvc) words via games - children choose any board number (Board 1 to Board 8) which are colour-coded with the word cards, e.g. Board 1 (yellow) with yellow word cards. H/she chooses a board and read the word on the card and cover the picture that matches the word. The alien pictures can be covered with any of the pseudo-word cards. Children can play in twos/threes - choose the colour of their boards and word cards. Shuffle the set of word cards and lay them face down on the table. They take turns turning over a card. If a card matches their board colour, s/he reads the word and covers the picture for that word. If the colour does not match or s/he cannot read the word, the word card is put back face down on the table. Using the word cards only - shuffle a selection of cards and the child reads as many words as s/he can. Additional use to check progress: For the teacher/assistant - Optional 8 Phonics screening check sheets - On each sheet there is a list of words that correspond to the set of word cards. This literacy/maths link pack on Australian currency introduces students to the six coins in circulation and 1 cent and 2 cent coins and the function of the Australian Mint. Worksheets relating to cvc words. A lovely addition to your phonics lesson to support phonic work. Aimed at: Reception/Year 1. It consists of 2 sets of 54 worksheets together with picture and word cards in colour and black and white. Teacher's Notes included for suggested activities. Children look at the picture and say what it is. Then they colour in the letters that make that word. When they have coloured in the letter, the children rearrange them to spell the word and write it on the handwriting guide line. If some children get stuck, I have included words cards with the same pictures which you can put in the middle of the table for the children to find that matching picture that is also on the worksheet. This presentation pack comprises 5 PowerPoint Presentations. Aim: To develop children’s knowledge of the alphabet (upper/lower case letters) and sound and letter correspondences. Just choose a presentation and play. The 5 presentations all include animation. (Shortcut for Slide View press f5 tab) . You can display flashcards around the classroom as visual reference for the children. B. Set of Consonant Endings Blend Cards Small endings blend cards for small group activities. Students can practise saying the graphemes and clap each letter. You could ask what letters the students could put before the consonant blends to make a word. Some students might remember the flashcards you showed earlier in the lesson. For example, you can put ‘a’ before ‘ct’ to make the word ‘act’. You can select easier cards such as ‘e’ and ‘nd’ ‘end’ or ‘o’ and ‘ld’ for old, ‘e’ and ‘lk’ for ‘elk’ or ‘lf’ for ‘elf’. Practise writing the graphemes on handwriting paper. C. Set of Beginning Words Card for activity and a set of Endings Blends for activity These are the words on the flashcards that have been separated for this activity. Ideally laminate these cards and then cut apart. This is a word making activity and you can choose either cursive or non-cursive cards. Whatever level your students are at, you can select the beginning words and endings blends cards and put a selection on the tables. Students practise making words with the selected cards. After practising, they can list the words they have made on the Recording Worksheet. D. 3 Ready-made making words Worksheets There are three ready-made worksheets which replicates the above activity. The images of the two sets of cards are in separate boxes. Students choose one of the starting words in the box and the consonant ending blends in the other box in order to make a word. Students write the word out. The last activity is to choose one word and write a sentence with it. E. Playing a matching game You may have to print out some beginning and endings blends more than once to make different words, e.g. be st be nd se nd. You decide on how many words you want the students to make. Lay out a selection of beginning and ending words in to two piles face down. 1st player chooses a beginning word and an ending word, if they match to make a word he/she keeps them. Remember to ‘Save As’, give a new name to the Presentation before editing. You can change the date of Mother’s Day as it changes each year. Simple Ready-made card This is for some pupils who are reluctant to design a card. See preview pane. Print off the sheet onto card or good quality paper. Pupils can decorate and colour in and add their name at the bottom. Then fold along the line to look like a card. Second sheet with the heart should be printed on normal paper. Tell pupils to decorate the sheet with the large heart on and then cut out to stick onto the front of the card. 3 Optional Worksheets to use after assembly or lesson. Worksheet 1 – Pupils draw four things and write simple sentences of what their mums or foster mum or gran do for them. Worksheet 2 – Pupils draw four things and write simple sentences of what they will do to make Mother’s Day special. For example, he/she could draw themselves giving mum a tray with breakfast in bed and then write a sentence correctly punctuated. Additional Worksheet 3 – This worksheet is in two parts. There is a gap-filling activity with the words in the word bank. The second part is finding which day of the week is missing and then writing it. Fun activities for young students to use puzzles to make CVC words. Aimed at: Early years to start learning and building upon CVC phonic knowledge, KS1 and ESL/EFL students. Opportunity for students to practise initial, medial and final letters in a CVC word. <strong>This product contains:</strong> • CVC Puzzle pieces with and without pictures for workbooks (56 CVC words) • CVC Large Puzzles (Purple) with black and white pictures (57 CVC words) • CVC Large Puzzles (Green) with pictures and extra words (73 CVC words) • Blank Puzzle Sheets Each letter is on a puzzle piece so that the student can form a word. <strong>Suggested Activities</strong> <strong>• CVC Puzzle pieces with and without pictures</strong> Cut/paste: Practical activity for children to cut out and sort the pieces into a CVC word and stick into their workbook or on a sheet of paper. Easier puzzles are with pictures on all the pieces. For more able children: There are puzzles without pictures on the three pieces, but one piece has a picture to complete the puzzle. You can prepare and cut up a select of puzzle pieces for children to sort and stick. <strong>• CVC Large Puzzles (Purple) with black and white pictures</strong> <strong>Independent activity for children to do.</strong> Just leave a selection of puzzle sheets and plain paper on their tables. They cut out the puzzle and put them together to make the CVC word. The picture on the puzzle piece completes the puzzle. <strong>• CVC Large Puzzles (Green) with colour clipart</strong> It is best to print onto card/good quality paper and laminate and then cut out. A total of 73 CVC words which you can print and laminate whenever you need a set of words. Ideal for early finishers and small group work. Children can access these sets of puzzles anytime to practise making CVC words. <strong>Other suggested activity</strong> Once a word is made, children can write on their whiteboards or in their workbooks other CVC words that rhyme with, e.g. ram, yam, ham and jam; pad, sad, mad and had. Please note US spelling UPDATED with two trace and write worksheets for the more able to trace over the sentences and then write them out on the line without handwriting guide. This product contains a set of worksheets relating to CVC phonics work. Students practice reading, writing and drawing CVC words. The worksheets can be used as assessment to check on the progress of individuals and so the worksheets are ideal for small group work. Teacher Notes included. The worksheets are: • Read and Write (3 Worksheets) Sight words: I, can, see and a. Students complete each sentence with a missing word using the picture as a visual aid. When they have used the word, they tick the box below the picture. The students can color in when they have finished. • Read and Draw (7 Worksheets) Students read the CVC word by sounding out and blending and then draw the picture that represents the word. They can trace inside the letters with a pencil or with different color pencils to make rainbow words. As an extension activity for the more able students, they can use sight words they know to write a sentence using each word on the worksheet below the picture, on whiteboards or into their workbooks. • Read and Trace (Differentiated 4 Worksheets) These worksheets can be used as guided reading in a small group setting or one-to-one teaching. Sight words: A, a, on, we, can, has and see. When the students have read a sentence, they should trace over the same sentence below and color in the pictures. • Read, Cut and Glue (2 Worksheets, 2 Sheets with Pictures to cut out)</strong> Independent work: Students read each sentence and then cut out and glue the picture that matches that sentence. <strong>• Missing Letters Activity (4 Worksheets) Two worksheets are missing 1 letter from each of the CVC words. Two worksheets are missing 2 letters from each of the CVC words. Students use the pictures to help them sound out the missing letter(s) and write it in the blank space(s). This Presentation relates to mixed CVC short medial vowels a, e, i, o, u. A lovely time-saving presentation to introduce into your phonic sessions. <strong>Play in Slide Show.</strong> Students are asked to think, pair and share. <strong>Presentation 1 – (6 Slides) (Suitable to assess students’ knowledge of CVC words).</strong> You can use this presentation to see how many words your children can make with each of the five medial vowels in CVC words. To make it more exciting, I have uploaded a timer set for 2 mins and 5 mins. Children write as many CVC words as they can with: • Medial vowel ‘a’ • Medial vowel ‘e’ • Medial vowel ‘i’ • Medial vowel ‘o’ • Medial vowel ‘u’ You can do a vowel a day. <strong>Presentation 2 – (16 Slides) (Suitable for Middle Ability students)</strong> In this presentation, students are asked to write CVC words, but they are given clues in sentences to help them. You can show one sentence clue at a time. When they have written the word on their whiteboards or have given an answer orally, you can reveal the answers on the next slides. Each picture is labelled with its CVC word. <strong>Presentation 3 – (16 Slides) (Suitable for students learning CVC Words with short vowels)</strong> In this presentation, children are shown pictures of mixed CVC words. With their partner, they say the word and write it down. <strong>You can show one picture at a time.</strong> When they have written their word, reveal the answers one by one by clicking on the slide. Option: You can choose which presentation you want to play in your phonics session. You may want to concentrate just on medial vowel ‘e’ in all three presentations. The set of 6 interactive PowerPoint Presentations are great time-saving assets to any phonic sessions. They are easy to use and the children will enjoy cooperative learning - think, pair share. CVC words fun activities with picture cards for Reception and Year 1/PreK and K. Learning intention: Blending/segmenting CVC words for reading and writing. This product contains: • Teacher’s Notes and Answer Sheet for carousel activity • 30 CVC Word Search Strips with pictures (6 pages) • 30 CVC Sentence Strips to read and find CVC answer (6 pages) • Find and Write CVC List Worksheets –With headings Table 1 to Table 6 for carousel • 36 Pictures (not labelled) for CVC List Worksheets above (Laminate/cut out) • 36 Pictures labelled for other suggested activities <strong>30 CVC Word Search Strips with pictures (6 pages)</strong> There are 6 worksheets each containing 5 CVC word search strips. The students look at the picture and then search for the word in the strip. When found, they colour or shade in the word. You can cut the strips out and stick into students’ phonics book. <strong>30 CVC Sentence Clue Strips (6 pages)</strong> These worksheets are for the more able that can read and decode words. The students read the sentence which gives a clue to the CVC word to look for in the mini word search strip. The strips contain two CVC words, but only one is correct. For example: This animal barks. He/She then looks for the word in the strip and colour or shade in the word. You have the option of cutting out the strips and selecting those you feel are suitable for your students and sticking them into workbooks or the students can complete the worksheets. <strong>Find and Write Carousel Activity</strong> The students are up and moving in this activity. Once they have completed the task on table 1, they then move on to table 2 with a different selection of pictures with Table 2 Worksheet CVC List and so on to Table 6. Each table contains a set of different pictures which relates to each worksheet with the same pictures. Children work in table groups. When the children change tables, hand out the ‘Find and Write List’ for that table for children to write on. You can set a time limit for working on each table. The students look at the worksheet for, e.g. table 3. They will see six pictures. They find the pictures that match what is on their worksheet and write the CVC word for that picture. <strong>Make sure they write their names on their worksheet before handing them in and going on to the next table activity with new words and pictures.</strong> <strong>Other Suggested Uses</strong> Extra group activity – Select some of the laminated pictures cards and ask the children to write the cvc words for those cards on their whiteboards. Ideal to use in group settings - each table has a dedicated activity and the children can move round once they have had a go or completed an activity. <strong>Content:</strong> Teachers Notes on activities -Whole page color words surrounded by bubbles -Whole page color words for children to trace over the dashes Color word cards - upper case letters Color word cards - lower case letters Selection of color pictures with labels Black and white pictures for children to color in Clipart buttons in a variety of colors Colors : red, brown, blue, orange, black, green, gray, yellow, white, purple and pink. <strong>• Activity 1</strong> – You can direct the children to use any color equipment to fill in the color words and the bubbles – paint, crayons, felt tips, pencils. <strong>• Activity 2</strong> – Children join up the dashes to complete the letters and then color in the word. They can draw things that are usually that color. <strong>• Activity 3</strong> – Use IT Paint Palette on computer to create a colorful picture or simply a rainbow. Extension: Ask the more able to type/write the colors they have used by copying the word cards. </strong>• Activity 4 – Color sort.</strong> Children sort the buttons by color and glue them in the correct circles. <strong>• Activity 5: Hands-on activity:</strong> Alternatively, put out a selection of real buttons for children sort into color groups onto the circles and they can say how they have grouped the buttons. <strong>• Activity 6: Word cards (upper/lower case letters):</strong> Lay out blank sugar paper or ordinary paper for children to glue on the color card word, either upper or lower case, and then colour inside the letters. <strong>Prep:</strong> Cut out a selection of different color pictures for the children and get them to decide which color pictures they should stick around the name of the card color.
